The Scanner Board is the central interface displaying scanner results, whether in list or alert type. It serves as the primary dashboard where you can monitor stocks that match your specified criteria.

The Scanner Board automatically refreshes every minute to update the list of matching stocks. It functions as a floating window that you can freely position and resize across your screen.

You can launch multiple Scanner Boards simultaneously, each configured with different scanning parameters. This enables comprehensive market monitoring and efficient tracking of stocks across various criteria.

Scanner Board components

You can review the image above to see the different components of the scanner board.

Scanner name: The name of the scanner you are currently viewing.

Last minute grade: Can be either A+ or F-. The minute preceding the alert is evaluated and graded.

  • A+ indicates a low float stock experiencing high trading volume per second and significant upward price momentum within the last minute.
  • F- indicates a low float stock experiencing high trading volume per second and significant downward price momentum within the last minute.

These grades are NOT buy or sell signals. They serve solely as indicators to help you evaluate a stock’s recent price behavior.

High Of Day (HOD) / Low Of Day (LOD): Indicates whether the stock is reaching a new high or low for the current trading day. While all stocks in our alert-type scanners are making new daily highs or lows, this indicator is particularly valuable in the context of top gainers and losers lists.

Time since last alert: The elapsed time since the alert appeared in the scanner board. In the example image above, you can see that stock UAVS appeared on this scanner board 2 minutes ago at $4.29, then reappeared in the latest batch at $4.72. This represents a significant price movement within just 2 minutes. Note the exceptional trading volume exceeding 100 trades per second and the A+ grade. These indicators suggest strong momentum, making this stock particularly worth monitoring.

Number of alerts passing your filter / Total alerts received in last batch: This ratio shows how many stocks match your specified criteria. The total alerts received in the last batch represents all stocks reaching new highs or lows within the previous minute. Stocks averaging fewer than 0.5 trades per second are automatically filtered out from the scanner results.

Scanner Settings: Click this settings icon to configure the scanner parameters.

Audio Alerts: You can enable or disable audio alerts for this scanner. See the audio alerts page for more information.

Connection Status: As long as the connection status is green, you are connected to the server and receiving the latest data. If the connection status is red, there could be a problem with your internet connection or our server. Reconnection attempts are automatic.

Scanner description: A concise description of the scanner and its filtering criteria. This description is only available for pre-configured, default scanners.

Mute / UnMutet: Clicking the mute text prevents a ticker from appearing in the scanner board. Muted tickers remain hidden until one of the following conditions occurs:

  • You manually unmute them
  • 30 minutes elapse
  • Market opens at 9:30 AM
  • A new trading day begins
Note: Both market open and the start of a new trading day automatically clear all muted tickers.

Ticker Info Card

The scanner board consists of ticker cards. Each ticker card displays information about stocks that match your criteria at the moment they are detected by the scanner

From top to bottom, the ticker card displays the following information:

  • Ticker symbol
  • Latest price when the stock was detected (in parentheses)
  • Trades per second: The rate of transactions occurring for the stock. This metric indicates the stock’s trading activity level.
  • Last minute %: The stock’s percentage change within the last minute.
  • Float: The float of the stock. The float is the total number of shares that are available for public investors to buy and sell. The less float available, the easier it is for the stock to move up or down.
  • Gap: The percentage difference between the previous day’s closing price and the current price.
  • % Open: The percentage difference between today’s opening price and the current price. This data is only available during regular trading hours (RTH).
  • Day High: The stock’s highest price reached during the current trading day.
  • Day Volume: The total number of shares traded. During pre-market, volume accumulates from 4AM ET; during regular trading hours, volume accumulates from 9:30AM ET.
  • News: Quick access to recent stock news. Clicking the news icon opens a new tab with the latest updates from Finviz or StockTwits.

Background colors

You can see that the various data points on the ticker have a color-coded background. These colors provide a quick visual reference to help you assess the stock’s current status. As a general rule, the darker the color shade, the more significant the value.

These color gradients are calibrated to their respective data types. For example, the green scale used for Gap % is specific to gap percentages and differs from the green scale used for Last Minute %. Each metric maintains its own independent color range.

Board next update indicator

The Scanner Board automatically refreshes every minute (approximately on the 5th second) to update the list of matching stocks. The “Next Update” indicator shows the remaining time until the next refresh. As illustrated in the image, a blue progress bar is located at the bottom of the Scanner Board. The bar gradually fills from left to right as time progresses, providing a visual countdown until the next update occurs when the blue bar reaches full width.
